Above you can see the famous ”The knotted gun” and I just love this symbol of peace! My friend the artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd made this symbol as a memorial tribute to John Lennon when he was shot to death. The idea with the knotted gun was to tribute John Lennon for his vision of a world with less violence.
We have several of Carl Fredriks ”Non-Violence statues” here in Sweden, and they are also spred around the world. In New York there is one of them at the United Nations, and Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General and Nobel Peace Laureate stated the following:
“The sculpture Non-Violence has not only endowed the United Nations with a cherished work of art; it has enriched the consciousness of humanity with a powerful symbol that encapsulates, in a few simple curves, the greatest prayer of man; that which asks not for victory, but for peace.
The world today needs symbols for peace and also this year there has been a lot of violence around the world. Just a week ago today in Newtown USA, there was a big tragedy, and a lot of children and their teachers where killed. Also this time there were weapons involved…
This is the time to think about what we can do for making the world to a more nonviolent place.
I´m dreaming of a nonviolent world, Merry Christmas to you all!
